Patient was educated on measures to avoid H. Pylori infection as follows:

  1. Hand hygiene
  • This bacterium can be present in feces, saliva, and vomit of healthy individuals, as not all individuals with H. pylori in them show up with symptoms of peptic ulcer disease.
  • So, the bacterium can be transmitted unknowingly and accidentally from one to the other.
  • Observing good hand hygiene helps with avoiding getting infected with the bacterium.
  1. Always drink water from a safe and uncontaminated source, as improper water and sewage treatment can be a significant contributor in spread of this infection.
  2. Avoid eating uncooked or undercooked food, as the bacterium survives in undercooked meat and vegetables and can act as a potential source of infection.
  3. Avoid eating at unsanitary restaurants and roadside eateries, where risk for food contamination can be significantly high.
  4. Wash your hands with soap and warm water thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, before handling food and after using restroom. Observing good hand hygiene prevents accidental contamination of food with the bacterium.
