Patient was educated on management of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome as follows:

  1. Maintain compliance with the no smoking instructions. Smoking can add additional insult to the injured lungs and can lead to further deterioration of respiratory status in the patient.
  2. Compliance with flu and pneumonia shots can contribute towards reduced pulmonary infections.
  3. Maintain strict compliance with fluid intake recommendation made by your physician. Fluid intake more than the recommendation made can help increase fluid retention in the lungs and deteriorate the condition further. Less fluid intake than the recommendation made can contribute towards low blood pressures, increased confusion, and fall risks.
  4. Maintain compliance with aspiration precautions and GERD prevention measures, as recommended by your physician.
  5. Compliance with any recommendations made for use of supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation should be strictly followed. This measure will help the patient to breath better and prevent development of complications from deficient oxygen supply to the tissues.
