Patient was instructed regarding management measures for varicose veins as follows:

  1. Using OTC anti-inflammatory medications, such as, ibuprofen, can help reduce the pain and discomfort caused by the inflammation of veins and promote comfort.
  2. Rest with feet elevated in bed during the night, using 4 pillows under your ankles, to help increase venous return to the heart and empty the veins in the legs. This can reduce accumulation of blood and prevent distention of veins.
  3. Every morning, lay down flat on the bed with the lower extremities raised into the air, before having the compression stockings pulled on evenly over the limb. This helps better emptying of the veins in the lower extremities and prevent development of varicosities. Make sure the stockings are not too constricting, so that, they obstruct the blood return along the veins.
