Patient was educated on management measures for prevention of angina as follows:

Blood thinners and anticoagulants

  • Individuals with sedentary lifestyle and history of cardiac arrhythmias are at increased risk for blood clot formation, which can obstruct the coronary arteries, compromise blood supply to the heart, and lead to angina.
  • Observe compliance with any blood thinners prescribed, to prevent formation of clots.

Smoking cessation

  • Nicotine in the cigarettes can cause damage to the inner lining of the blood vessels and consequently, increase the risk for atherosclerosis and deposition of cholesterol plaques.
  • Also, smoking can contribute to vasospasms and generalized collapse of blood vessels, including coronaries.
  • This can compromise the coronary arteries, thus reducing blood supply to the heart muscle and lead to angina.
  • Observe compliance with instructions regarding smoking cessation.

Emotional stress management

  • Practice deep breathing and alternative stress management measures, such as, mild exercise and distraction techniques, to help manage the stress better.
