  1. Patient could be started on pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications to counter the pain and swelling of the intestines.
  2. A bypass could be created around the blockage in the artery, to promote blood supply to the distal parts of the intestine.
  3. If the damage is severe, patient could be made NPO and nothing given by mouth to allow some rest for the inflamed and damaged intestinal smooth muscle.
  4. IV fluids and parenteral nutrition can help manage dehydration and nutrition intake.
  5. Damaged intestinal segment is at high risk for infection, secondary to poor oxygen supply. So, Patient could be started on antibiotics to manage any infection of the damaged intestinal segment.
  6. If the intestinal segment is severely necrosed and dead, this portion of the intestine could be surgically removed.
  7. Managing optimum cholesterol levels and heart function of the patient, by observing compliance with medications and dietary limitations can help the patient with ischemic bowel disease significantly.
