Patient was educated on how to plan a regular diet as follows:
- On the portion for protein & lean meat, add food items such as, eggs, egg whites, chicken, turkey, pork, fish, and lean beef. Milk and milk products such as, yogurt, cheese, paneer, custard, kefir, and buttermilk can also be good sources for protein.
- Vegetarians and vegans can depend on alternative sources for protein, such as, soybeans and products made of soybeans, such as, tofu, edamame, and tempeh. Increasing consumption of lentils, such as, green gram, red gram, black gram, and legumes/beans such as, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, fava beans, and lima beans can also help with protein supplementation in vegetarians and vegans.
- For dessert, you can depend on having some fresh fruit, such as, peach, plum, grapes, apple, banana, and pineapple. Apart from serving a good choice for dessert, fruit can also be good source for fiber, essential minerals, and other nutrients. Based on calorie allowance, you can also have choices such as, yogurt, chocolate chip cookie, fudge, brownie, ice cream, popsicle, cupcake, or other recommended food items for dessert, thus completing your meal.
