Patient was educated on relief measures and lifestyle modifications for management of gastroesophageal reflux disease as follows:
- Avoid excessive fatty foods
- High fatty foods cause relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and compromise the function of sphincter in preventing attacks of GERD.
- Avoiding excessive fatty foods in the diet can help preventing acute exacerbation of GERD episodes.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing and corsets
- Avoiding wearing tight clothing can relieve pressure on the abdomen and help preventing attacks of GERD.
- Avoid spicy foods
- Spicy foods can irritate the damaged portions of esophagus and precipitate attacks of GERD more frequently.
- Avoiding spicy foods can prevent exacerbation of episodes of GERD.
