Patient was educated on Levaquin and its mechanism of action as follows:

  1. Levaquin is abroad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against several bacteria.
  2. This is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of Quinolones.
  3. Levaquin acts by inhibiting topoisomerase enzyme, which is needed to separate the replicated bacterial DNA strands.
  4. Separation of the bacterial DNA strands is needed for bacterial division and progression of infection. Topoisomerase enzymes help during this step of bacterial division.
  5. Inhibition of topoisomerase enzymes prevents separation of bacterial DNA strands, which prevents bacterial division and progression of infection.
  6. Levaquin is an antibacterial agent and does not act against any viral infections.
