Patient was educated on insoluble dietary fiber as follows:
- Dietary fiber is classified into two types: Insoluble fiber and Soluble fiber. Vegetable sources usually have a mix of both the types.
- Insoluble Fiber
- Bran of whole grains is an important source of insoluble fiber.
- This type of fiber is also found in the oats, cereals, skin of vegetables and fruits. Insoluble fiber is what makes one feel full.
- A portion of this type of fiber is acted upon by the intestinal bacterial flora bringing on some fermentation. But, most of this is eliminated.
- It adds bulk to the stool and helps food pass quickly through the stomach and intestines and helps for a healthy digestive system.
