Patient/caregiver was instructed upon indications for temazepam use as follows:
- Temazepam, by enhancing the effects of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA, can contribute towards promoting sleep. So, it can be used in individuals with trouble falling/staying sleep and insomnia.
- By depressing the brain and spinal cord, promoting dizziness, and reducing the activity and alertness, temazepam can help in relieving symptoms of anxiety.
- Inhibition of nerve impulses in the brain and spinal cord with use of temazepam can also help in controlling the seizure activity and so, temazepam can be used as an anticonvulsant.
- But, temazepam has more sleep induction potential than antianxiety and anticonvulsant actions, in comparison to other medications belonging to the benzodiazepine group, such as, oxazepam and diazepam.
- As temazepam depresses the brain and spinal cord, it helps with reducing the impulses reaching out to the skeletal muscles. This can lead to reduced motor activity and promotion of skeletal muscle relaxation and rest.
