Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Sensipar as follows:
- Optimum serum calcium levels are very important for normal nerve functions, sensory awareness, mood, and behavior. Lowered serum calcium with sensipar use can result in deterioration of mood and worsening of history of mood disorders. Sensipar must be used with caution in individuals with history of mood disorders, with symptoms for deterioration of mood disorders being evaluated periodically. Discuss with your physician regarding your history of mood disorders, if any, and your safety with sensipar intake. Report to your physician immediately regarding any fresh episodes or exacerbation of symptoms of mood disorders, such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, irritability, and reduced appetite & intake with consequent weight loss, for a change in plan of care to be considered.
- Sensipar can interact with medications, such as, diuretics, calcium supplements, many antibacterial and antifungal antibiotics, antiarrhythmic medications, and antidepressants, resulting in development or aggravation of cardiac arrhythmias, leading to debility and sudden cardiac death. Avoid taking sensipar along with medications belonging to the above-mentioned groups, to prevent any dangerous arrhythmias from developing.
