Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Mysoline as follows:

  1. The active metabolites of Mysoline have significant pharmacological actions as the parent compound Mysoline. These metabolites along with the unmetabolized portion of Mysoline are mainly excreted in the urine.  Individuals with renal disease cannot excrete them normally, which allows them to stay in blood circulation for longer time, resulting in toxicity and consequent side-effects. So, Mysoline could be avoided in individuals with compromised renal function and an alternative medication considered or used with caution, with possible multiple dose adjustments, periodical monitoring for renal functions, and close watch for development of any dangerous side-effects and toxicity symptoms with the medication.
  2. Periodical labs could be drawn to evaluate the safe therapeutic blood levels of Mysoline. Labs could also be ordered for periodical liver and renal function evaluation. Observe compliance with any lab draws ordered.
  3. If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
