Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Mysoline as follows:

  1. Mysoline carries a potential for addiction and abuse. Individuals with history of substance abuse have an increased chance for addiction with Mysoline use. Notify your doctor regarding your history of substance abuse, so that, your plan of care could be revised and an alternative medication could be prescribed for control of seizure activity.
  2. Patients with history of mood disorders, secondary to Mysoline intake, can experience deterioration and worsening of clinical symptoms of mood disorders. Individuals can present with deteriorating complaints such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, reduced sexual interest and performance, gross appetite changes, impulsiveness, agitation, aggression, and suicidal thoughts. Notify your physician regarding any such worsening mood changes, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised.
  3. Mysoline use, especially on empty stomach, can induce some nausea and vomiting.  Taking dose of Mysoline with a glass of water, after having some food or a snack can help avoid having unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms with the medication.
  4. While taking Mysoline as ordered, notify your doctor of any continuing episodes of seizures, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised.
