Patient was educated on how to use Levalbuterol inhalation solution in a nebulizer as follows:

  1. Make sure the nebulizer cup and air compressor are clean before using them.
  2. Do not mix 2 separate bronchodilator medications into the nebulizer at any given time.
  3. Connect the air compressor to an electric outlet. Make sure the vents on the air compressor are not blocked, to facilitate necessary airflow into the compressor.
  4. The nebulizer has a cup into which the Levalbuterol solution is placed. If you notice the medication to be cloudy or has any particles in it, discard the medication and use a fresh vial of medication for inhalation.
  5. Cover the cup tightly with the cap and secure the medication to prevent spilling over and wastage of the medication.
  6. The oxygen tubing helps with transporting air from the compressor to the base of the nebulizer cup, into which the medication was placed. Connect one end of this tubing to the air compressor and the other end to the base of the nebulizer cup.
  7. Attach the mouthpiece to the top of the nebulizer cup, through which the mist can be inhaled and hold the nebulizer cup upright during the entire process.
  8. Turn the air compressor on. The nebulizer will start misting. Insert the mouthpiece in between the teeth. Make sure the tongue is not obstructing the mouthpiece, by having the mouthpiece over the tongue and not under.
  9. Close the mouth tightly around the mouthpiece and start inhaling the mist. Slowly breath in and out until all the Levalbuterol is inhaled and the cup is empty. This could take about 10 – 15 minutes.
  10. If the nebulizer is not misting, check for the connections and the electrical outlet, to make sure all the connections are in place.
  11. Turn the air compressor off, once the procedure is done.
  12. Maintain compliance with the everyday inhalation of the prescribed dose. Do not overdose on the inhalation of Levalbuterol solution.
