Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage and prevent development of hives as follows:

  1. Individuals with history of hives activation must avoid having any pets indoor, as pet hair, dander, saliva, and urine are significant triggers that can stimulate flare-up of allergic condition.
  2. Wash all bedsheets, blankets, and pillow covers weekly in hot water and dry them thoroughly in a drier, which helps eliminate the dust mites and prevents flare-up of hives.
  3. Women, owing to the hormone changes during menstruation, abnormal menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and menopause, are more prone for flare-up of hives due to this trigger. Women in these age groups must exercise caution with noting for early signs and symptoms of hives activation, which can help an early management intervention.
  4. Chronic uncontrolled stress can be an important trigger for hives activation. Observe compliance with daily recommended physical activity and quality sleep hours. Balancing activity and resting hours can play an important role in stress management. Appropriate control and management of stress can help prevent hives activation. Also, observe compliance with relaxation measures, such as, yoga, meditation, and massage to help improved stress control.
  5. Individuals with history of autoimmune conditions like Type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid malfunction can be at increased risk for formation of antibodies that can damage their own body tissues including skin, resulting in hives. Individuals with history of these health conditions must exercise caution with noting for early signs and symptoms of hives activation, which can help an early management intervention.
