Patient/caregiver was educated on risk factors for development of hives as follows:
- Environmental temperature: Exposure to extremes of temperatures and sudden change in environmental temperatures, with quick moves from cold to warm and vice versa can result in activation/worsening of hives.
- Chronic stress: Individuals with history of chronic unrelieved stress can have excessive steroid hormone production in their body to help stress management. Steroids have the potential to reduce antibody production and compromise immunity. Compromised immune status in individuals can act as a trigger, activating hives.
- Infections: Many bacterial, viral, and fungal infections have the potential to trigger flare-up of hives in individuals with genetic tendency for the condition.
