Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to plan for high residue diet recommendation as follows:

  1. Incorporate more nuts & seeds, such as, walnuts, pecans, almonds, chia seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds into your diet plan, as they are a good source of fiber, protein, and healthy fats. Try eating them raw or roasted and avoid the flavored or salted varieties, as they carry unhealthy & unwanted calories.
  2. Having more of non-starchy vegetables that are particularly low in calories and high in fiber content, such as, asparagus, beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, carrots, radish, mushroom, peppers, peas, and tomato can significantly increase fiber intake. Eating a small serving of these vegetables for a mid-morning or evening snack can help with feeling full, contribute to reduced intake during mealtime, and cut down on consumption of extra calories.
  3. Choose to have some dried fruits on your daily diet plan. Having prunes, apricots, dates, and figs can be a healthy snack and help improve fiber intake.
  4. If the meal lacks enough fiber, you can also choose to add 2 tablespoonsful of whole wheat bran to it, to improve the fiber intake.
