Patient was educated on hemorrhoids as follows:
- Hemorrhoids are swollen and enlarged veins in the rectum and anal canal.
- Based on the location, they can either be internal or external hemorrhoids.
- Internal hemorrhoids form in the rectum. These hemorrhoids are usually not visible. Internal hemorrhoids mostly are not painful, as pain sensitivity in this area is limited, due to limited nerve supply.
- External hemorrhoids form in the anal canal, the last part of the gastrointestinal tract. They can be seen and are very painful in nature, due to very rich nerve supply in this area.
- Straining at stool happens to be the most common cause of hemorrhoid formation.
