Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Haldol as follows:
Control of vomiting
- Inhibition of dopamine activity in the brain reportedly contributes significantly to control of vomiting.
- This action of Haldol helps with control/preventing vomiting in individuals undergoing chemotherapy.
- Haldol can also be used to relieve uncontrollable hiccups.
Movement disorders
- A balance between the various neurotransmitters in the brain is essential for control of fine movements and balance.
- An imbalance with these neurotransmitters is considered responsible for chorea, which involves sudden, involuntary, jerky movements of the extremities.
- Haldol can help with establishing this balance in the neurotransmitter levels and contribute towards preventing chorea.
