Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using halcion as follows:
General constitutional side-effects
- Halcion use can sometimes result in common general constitutional symptoms such as, nausea, vomiting, and stomach upset.
- These constitutional symptoms can be self-limiting and resolve over time.
- Taking halcion with a small snack can help avoid having unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms with the medication. But, food can slow the absorption of halcion and compromise the therapeutic benefit of the medication.
General allergic reactions
- Halcion use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
- Some patients can present with symptoms of anaphylaxis, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing.
- Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.
Drowsiness and dizziness
- Halcion produces intense feeling of drowsiness and dizziness, as a side effect to inducing sleep.
- Individuals can experience daytime sleepiness with halcion use.
