Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to plan for ADA diet recommendation as follows:

  1. While using sauce for flavoring your food, try using low calorie sauces, such as, marinara sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or homemade barbeque sauce versus creamy white sauce, pesto sauce, or tartar sauce, which are high on calorie count.
  2. Choosing cottage cheese or low-fat cheese over regular cheese can help with cutting down on calorie consumption. Use low-fat cheese for making a sandwich, versus regular cheese.
  3. Choosing low fat or fat free alternatives on milk and milk products, such as, yogurt and butter milk, versus whole milk, whole fat yogurt, and whole fat butter milk can help with cutting down on calorie consumption.
  4. Choose almond milk or soymilk versus regular milk can help extra limitation on calorie consumption.
  5. Choose vegetable sources of protein, such as, tofu, beans, chickpeas, lentils, peas, and soybeans over animal meat, twice a week for cutting down on calorie consumption.
  6. Prefer having your vegetables, plain & fresh, baked or boiled versus fried, without any heavy cream added.
