  1. Choosing to snack on raw vegetables and whole grain crackers over foods, such as, fried cheese balls, corn fritters, fried mozzarella sticks, dill pickle fries, and chips can help cut down consumption of some unwanted calories.
  2. Salad or soup without any added cream can be healthier choices for appetizer over nachos, fried jalapeno poppers, fried ravioli, fried mozzarella, fried avocado, or fried zucchini chips. Choosing a broth-based soup versus a soup with added cream can be more nourishing and reduce calorie intake.
  3. You can choose to have a smaller sandwich, a six-inch bread versus a foot-long, to help calorie consumption. On a hamburger, choosing to have a regular hamburger over a double decker cheeseburger could also help.
  4. Whole wheat bread versus sandwich bread, white bread, or pita bread can be a wiser option for watch on calorie intake.
  5. Rely more on seasonings, herbs, and spices and avoid adding extra fat to flavor the foods. Use extra onion, garlic, lemon, sage, black pepper, basil, cumin, coriander, parsley and barbeque sauce for seasoning, instead of any high fat sauce, can add to reducing the calorie consumption.
