Patient/caregiver was educated on gluten free diet as follows:

  1. Gluten is a protein found in cereal grains, such as, wheat, rye, & barley. Various food products made of these cereal grains, such as, bread and bakery products, breakfast cereals, pasta, soups, sauces, beer, and whiskey can also carry significant amounts of gluten and so, are best avoided for compliance with gluten free diet.
  2. Cross contact with gluten may also occur when other cereals such as, oats, are grown or processed in facilities along with gluten containing grains and so, must be carefully watched for, to observe compliant with gluten free diet recommendation.
  3. As most of the bakery products are made of wheat flour, gluten could be inherently present in them. Choose bread and bakery products made of flour from rice, corn, buckwheat, flaxseed, potato, quinoa, and bean flour for compliance with gluten free diet. Millets, such as, sorghum, foxtail millets, pearl millets, and finger millets are also considered Gluten-free and safe to consume for individuals with gluten sensitivity.
  4. While picking any bread, biscuits, cookies, cakes, baking mixes, pizza, and pasta, observe strict limitation only to items labeled “Gluten free”.
  5. All fruits, seeds, nuts, and vegetables that are natural and unprocessed are gluten free and so, can be consumed by individuals with gluten sensitivity without any restrictions.
