Patient was educated on Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) as follows:
- Glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease.
- This number can be calculated from the results of your blood work.
- This number tells whether your kidneys are working normally or has their function been compromised.
- If your GFR number is low, your kidneys are not functioning at an optimal level, as they should.
- If the kidney function is compromised, the earlier it is detected, the better will be the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.
- In adults, a GFR number more than 90 is considered healthy.
- GFR declines with age, even in people without kidney disease.
