Patient was educated on Gentamicin and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the class of Aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- This antibiotic is active against several bacterial infections.
- Gentamicin does not act against any viral infections.
- Gentamicin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in a wide variety of bacteria.
- These proteins are needed for bacterial division and growth.
- Inhibition of protein synthesis by Gentamicin leads to killing of the bacteria, preventing their division and growth and thus, controls the infection.
