Patient was educated on management measures for orthostatic hypotension as follows:
- Wearing compression stockings on the legs and abdominal binders can help prevent increased pooling of blood in the abdominal viscera and large veins of the legs, thus decreasing the chances for sudden drop in blood pressure.
- Limit or avoid drinking alcoholic beverages. Alcohol increases frequency of urination and leads to low fluid volumes in the body, thus contributing to low blood pressure.
- Avoid bending at the waist and pick things up by squatting at the knees. Bending at the waist, taking the head down, and lifting back up can result in severe changes in the blood volume reaching the brain and sudden drop in blood pressure, precipitating acute episode of orthostatic hypotension.
