Patient was educated on extrinsic asthma as follows:

  1. Extrinsic asthma is a condition that is triggered by an exposure to an allergen. This response is also called Atopy.
  2. Extrinsic asthma mostly has a genetic origin, where individuals are more prone and predisposed to react to certain substances that are usually present in the environment and do not evoke any response in normal individuals.
  3. These substances can be called triggers. The individuals who react are just hypersensitive to the triggers and when they are exposed to these agents, can develop an episode of asthma.
  4. Signs and symptoms of extrinsic asthma include
  • Inflammation of airways with increased mucus production
  • Bronchial smooth muscle contraction with airway narrowing
  • Extreme shortness of breath
  • Wheezing
  • Coughing
