Patient was educated on extrinsic asthma as follows:
- Extrinsic asthma is a condition that is triggered by an exposure to an allergen. This response is also called Atopy.
- Extrinsic asthma mostly has a genetic origin, where individuals are more prone and predisposed to react to certain substances that are usually present in the environment and do not evoke any response in normal individuals.
- These substances can be called triggers. The individuals who react are just hypersensitive to the triggers and when they are exposed to these agents, can develop an episode of asthma.
- Signs and symptoms of extrinsic asthma include
- Inflammation of airways with increased mucus production
- Bronchial smooth muscle contraction with airway narrowing
- Extreme shortness of breath
- Wheezing
- Coughing
