Patient was educated on dietary limitations to be observed by individuals with inflammatory bowel disease as follows:

  1. Cut down on foods that aggravate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, such as, abdominal pain, bloating and distension. These foods include sodas, spicy foods, coffee, and alcohol.
  2. Avoid high fatty foods in your diet, as fat digestion is impaired in the small intestine and can make the intestinal irritation and diarrhea worse.
  3. Cut down on foods that add bulk to stool, such as, beans, high fiber foods, raw vegetables, and nuts.
  4. Vegetables can be boiled or steamed, instead of eating them raw.
  5. Avoid dairy products, if you are lactose intolerant.
  6. Cut down on chocolate and coffee, as they increase the chances for reflux and worsen the symptoms of indigestion.
