Patient was educated on dialysis as follows:

  1. When kidney function is compromised, patients tend to retain fluid, salts, and other waste products, such as urea and uric acid. Retention of these substances can be overwhelming and toxic to the body.
  2. Dialysis is a procedure performed in patients with grossly diminished kidney function. This procedure substitutes the normal kidney function of cleaning the blood of the toxins and excess salts, and fluid.
  3. Dialysis is usually performed three times in a week, either Monday/Wednesday/Friday OR Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule. This procedure takes about 3 – 4 hours on each day of appointment.
  4. Dialysis can be of two types.
  • Hemodialysis – Most common.
  • Peritoneal dialysis – Less common.
