The patient/caregiver was educated on coping with behavior patterns in Alzheimer’s patients as follows:
- Individuals with Alzheimer’s can often experience delusions and hallucinations. Caregivers must provide frequent reassurances regarding their surroundings, safety, and security. Also, caregivers should periodically let the Alzheimer’s patient know of their availability for any needed help.
- Caregivers must maintain a close track of fluid intake by the individual with Alzheimer’s. They can often be poorly aware of thirst and consequently, fall back on fluid volume intake. Low fluid intake can increasingly contribute to the confusion states in Alzheimer’s patients. Compliance with fluid volume intake, as recommended, can help avoid this unfavorable outcome.
- Maintain a collection of photographs of family members, friends, events, and celebrations with the Alzheimer’s patient. Caregivers must take time periodically, to sit with the Alzheimer’s patient and go through the collection. This can help your loved one recollect their fond memories. Maintaining a digital picture frame on the patient’s nightstand or dressing table can be of great help.
- Avoid any circumstances with too many people talking at the same time around the Alzheimer’s individual. It can be very frustrating and confusing for the individual. Keep things simple and address to the individual one at a time.
