Patient/caregiver was instructed regarding side-effects to expect after receiving flu shot as follows:

  • Administration of flu shot can result in mild side-effects such as,
  1. Redness with soreness, pain, and swelling at the site of injection
  2. Muscle aches
  3. Headache
  4. Mild fever with chills
  5. Nausea & vomiting
  6. Exhaustion & tiredness
  7. Loss of appetite
  8. Dizziness & confusion, which can contribute to fall risk
  • Individuals with history of allergy to egg protein can be at increased risk to present with these side-effects and symptoms of allergic response, as most of the flu vaccines contain small amounts of egg protein.
  • Most of these side-effects after receiving flu shot are short-lived and resolve in a day or two. Report to your physician if these side-effects are severe and/or continue beyond 2 days.
