Patient was educated on contraindications for using Symbicort as follows:

  1. Osteoporosis
  • Use of Symbicort should be avoided or restricted in individuals with history of osteoporosis, as use of Symbicort in such individuals can result in further loss of bone mass and deterioration of osteoporosis with weakening of the skeletal framework and pathological fractures.
  • Carefully watch for any exacerbation of bone pain and report any such finding to your physician immediately.
  1. Hypokalemia
  • Symbicort should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of arrhythmias and reduced serum potassium levels.
  • Chronic use of Symbicort in such individuals can result in further drop in serum potassium levels that can precipitate life-threatening arrhythmias.
  • A close watch for irregular heartbeat, palpitations, dizziness, tingling, and muscle cramps must be maintained in individuals using Symbicort and must be reported to the physician accordingly.
