Patient was educated on contraindications for using Miralax as follows:
- Miralax has a high tendency to cause fluid depletion and dehydration. Caution must be exercised for fluid replacement and rehydration. Also, Miralax is to be taken with a full 8 oz. of water. So, extra caution must be exercised while administering these laxatives for patients placed on fluid limitations, such as, individuals with congestive heart failure and renal failure.
- Miralax usually is contraindicated in individuals with undiagnosed abdominal pain and cramping, as these complaints can deteriorate further with use of laxative.
- Miralax is contraindicated in individuals with rectal bleed, as these individuals are at risk for exacerbation of this complaint with laxative use.
