Patient was educated on contraindications for using Miralax as follows:

  1. Miralax has a high tendency to cause fluid depletion and dehydration. Caution must be exercised for fluid replacement and rehydration. Also, Miralax is to be taken with a full 8 oz. of water. So, extra caution must be exercised while administering these laxatives for patients placed on fluid limitations, such as, individuals with congestive heart failure and renal failure.
  2. Miralax usually is contraindicated in individuals with undiagnosed abdominal pain and cramping, as these complaints can deteriorate further with use of laxative.
  3. Miralax is contraindicated in individuals with rectal bleed, as these individuals are at risk for exacerbation of this complaint with laxative use.
