Patient was educated on contraindications for using Levofloxacin as follows:
- Levofloxacin undergoes minimal metabolism and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. Individuals with compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Levofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
- Levofloxacin carries the risk for hepatic damage and so, should be used with caution in individuals with history of compromised liver function. Watch closely for symptoms of exacerbation of liver disease in such individuals.
- Individuals with history of seizures and hallucinations can present with exacerbation of these symptoms with Levofloxacin. Levofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with seizure history.
- Levofloxacin can increase the risk for inflammation and rupture of tendons in the extremities. So, Levofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of tendinitis.
- Levofloxacin intake can increase the risk for skin rash and photosensitivity. Individuals with history of photosensitivity and taking Levofloxacin should avoid natural and bright lights or use sunscreens, to prevent any photosensitive responses from developing.
