Patient was educated on contraindications to be exercised while using Dulera as follows:

  1. Hypokalemia
  • Dulera should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of arrhythmias and reduced serum potassium levels.
  • Chronic use of Dulera in such individuals can result in further drop in serum potassium levels that can precipitate life-threatening arrhythmias.
  • A close watch for irregular heartbeat, palpitations, dizziness, tingling, and muscle cramps must be maintained in individuals using Dulera and must be reported to the physician accordingly.
  1. Opportunistic infection
  • Dulera should be used cautiously in individuals with history of opportunistic infections, as it can result in flaring up of infections, such as, candida, secondary bacterial and viral infections.
  • Discuss with your doctor regarding your history of opportunistic infections and safety with the use of Dulera.
  • Carefully watch for any throat irritation, undiagnosed productive cough, fever, stomach upset, white patches on the tongue and in the oral cavity, while using Dulera.
  • Report any of such findings to your physician.
  • Compliance with gargling and rinsing the mouth with water, after every dose of Dulera inhalation and spitting out this water after rinsing, is very important to prevent exacerbation of these opportunistic infections.
