Patient was educated on contraindications for using Colace as follows:
- Undiagnosed abdominal pain
- Colace usually is contraindicated in individuals with undiagnosed abdominal pain and cramping, as these complaints can deteriorate further with use of Colace.
- Rectal bleed
- Colace is contraindicated in individuals with history of rectal bleed, as these individuals are at risk for exacerbation of this complaint with use of Colace.
- Intestinal strictures
- Colace can occasionally cause intestinal blocks in individuals with intestinal strictures or adhesions from previous surgeries.
- So, Colace for the most part is contraindicated in such individuals.
- Discuss with your physician regarding history of intestinal strictures or adhesions from previous abdominal surgeries, if any and your safety with Colace.
