Patient was educated on contraindications for using Ciprofloxacin as follows:

  1. Ciprofloxacin undergoes minimal metabolism and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. Individuals with compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Ciprofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
  2. Ciprofloxacin carries the risk for hepatic damage and so, should be used with caution in individuals with history of compromised liver function. Watch closely for symptoms of exacerbation of liver disease in such individuals.
  3. Individuals with history of seizures and hallucinations can present with exacerbation of these symptoms with Ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with seizure history.
  4. Ciprofloxacin can increase the risk for inflammation and rupture of tendons in the extremities. So, Ciprofloxacin should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of tendinitis.
  5. Ciprofloxacin intake can increase the risk for skin rash and photosensitivity. Individuals with history of photosensitivity and taking Ciprofloxacin should avoid natural and bright lights or use sunscreens, to prevent any photosensitive responses from developing.
