Patient was educated on contraindications for using Ceftriaxone as follows:

  1. Watch for symptoms of worsening peripheral neuropathy, such as, increasing pain and numbness, tingling, and burning sensations in the extremities. Report such findings to your doctor immediately for a change in infection control plan to be considered. Ciprofloxacin should be discontinued and report to the physician for any occurrences of seizures.
  2. Ceftriaxone carries the risk for hepatic and renal damage and so, should be used with caution in individuals with history of compromised liver and renal functions. Watch closely for symptoms of exacerbation of liver and renal disease in individuals taking Ceftriaxone.
  3. Ceftriaxone hardly undergoes any metabolism in the body and is significantly excreted unchanged in the bile and urine. Individuals with biliary obstructions and compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Ceftriaxone should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
  4. Ceftriaxone intake can increase the risk for skin rash, ranging from mild to severe exfoliating rash and blisters. Individuals with history of extreme skin rashes and taking Ceftriaxone should be aware of this response and observe a close watch on the same.
