Patient was educated on contraindications for taking Glucotrol as follows:
- Glucotrol is mainly metabolized in the liver. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of these medications can suffer. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in toxicity and severe side effects. So, Glucotrol should be used with caution in individuals with hepatic dysfunction.
- Glucotrol is mainly excreted by the kidneys. Individuals with renal disease cannot excrete Glucotrol normally and so, this medication can stay in circulation for longer time and can be toxic. So, Glucotrol should be used with caution in individuals with compromised renal function.
- Glucotrol usually is contraindicated in individuals with history of sulfa allergy. If you are allergic to sulfa, please report it to your physician, for further guidance. Also, discuss with your physician regarding all the prescription and OTC medications that you take daily, to avoid any risk of cross reaction with Glucotrol.
- Individuals with any history of photosensitivity, skin rashes, and sunburns must exercise caution with use of Glucotrol and report any of these findings to the physician immediately.
