Patient was educated on contraindications for using Carvedilol as follows:
- Carvedilol use is contraindicated in individuals with history of asthma, COPD, and with any other respiratory issues resulting in episodes of difficulty breathing.
- Carvedilol is mainly metabolized in the liver. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of Carvedilol can suffer. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in toxicity and severe side effects. So, this medication should be used with caution in individuals with hepatic dysfunction.
- Carvedilol is mainly excreted by the kidneys. Individuals with renal disease cannot excrete this medication normally. This can result in the medication staying in circulation for longer time and can be toxic. So, Carvedilol should be used with caution in individuals with compromised renal function.
