Patient/caregiver was educated on risk factors for contact eczema activation as follows:

  1. Various chemicals used during design, manufacture, and assembly of plastic products can cause contact dermatitis and consequently, individuals working in this industry are at increased risk to present with the same.
  2. Rubber is an important trigger that can initiate contact eczema response. Construction workers handling elevator belts, hoses, and tubes, consumer industry workers handling footwear and sports goods, healthcare industry workers handling surgical gloves, contraceptives, and catheters can present with contact eczema due to increased contact exposure to rubber.
  3. Latex could be used in the manufacture of contraceptive devices like condoms & diaphragms, gloves, footwear, carpets, clothing, undergarments, electronic devices, and many other items used in everyday life. Individuals with allergy to latex can present with eczema on contact with any of the latex containing clothing and devices.
  4. Individuals could also present with contact eczema from contact with textile products, such as, silk and polyester. Many dyes used during manufacture of clothing and animal fur used for manufacture of winter clothing can also act as triggers for initiating an eczema response. Individuals with allergy to various dyes and textile materials can present with eczema on contact with these products.
