Patient was educated on complications of irritable bowel syndrome as follows:
- Unresolved recurrent episodes of diarrhea can result in dehydration and loss of nutrients.
- Prolonged episodes of constipation can result in hard stools and activation / aggravation of hemorrhoids.
- Activation of hemorrhoids can result in episodes of rectal bleeding and consequent anemia.
- Continued disturbance with intestinal patterns can result in diminished appetite levels and reduced intake.
- Prolonged episodes of diminished intake can result in malnutrition and weight loss.
