Patient was educated regarding complications of hemorrhoids as follows:
- Pain
- External hemorrhoids and prolapsed internal hemorrhoids can be extremely painful to touch and during bowel movement.
- Bleeding
- Both internal and external hemorrhoids can bleed heavily and if unchecked, can lead to anemia over time.
- Thrombus formation
- The hemorrhoids can form clots and lead to acute exacerbation of episodes of pain.
- Infection
- External hemorrhoids and prolapsed internal hemorrhoids can cause pruritus and inflammation.
- Intense itching with poor hygiene can lead to recurrent infections in the anal region, giving rise to complications like perianal abscess.
- Tenesmus
- Chronically inflamed hemorrhoids can lead to tenesmus, which is a constant inclination to have a bowel movement.
