Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Singulair as follows:

Hematologic side-effects

  1. Singulair carries significant risk of lowering the platelet count, resulting in episodes of easy and unexplained bruising and nasal bleeding. Individuals, secondary to singulair intake, can present with easy bruising and small purple patches on the skin due to reduced clotting ability of blood and episodes of poorly controlled bleeding into the skin.

Other constitutional side-effects

  1. Singulair use can result in flu like symptoms with mild fever, fatigue, dry cough, sore throat, sneezing, sinus irritation, and generalized body pains. Most of these side-effects with singulair intake can be self-limiting and resolve over a period of time. Report any unresolved flu like symptoms with singulair intake to your physician or other health care personnel, to accommodate necessary changes in your plan of care.
