Patient/caregiver was educated on prevention and control of cellulitis as follows:
- Individuals with any active wounds, surgical incisions, cuts, burns, or scrapings on the surface of skin are at increased risk for cellulitis development. Maintaining a close watch for signs and symptoms of cellulitis such as, pain, fever, swelling, redness & warmth, and oozing of any foul- smelling pus from the involved skin site can help early intervention and prevent development of complications.
- Do not leave any cuts or wounds uncovered. This can give free access to infecting agents, resulting in infection and cellulitis. Dressing of the wound with regular wound care and change of the dressing can help prevent development and worsening of cellulitis of involved skin site.
- Individuals with history of dry skin can often present with cracking and peeling of skin. Cold weather can aggravate the drying of skin and worsen the condition. Damaged skin can be easily attacked and infected by infecting agents. Observe compliance with regular application of moisturizer to prevent excessive drying and development of cellulitis changes in the involved skin.
