Patient/caregiver was educated on risk factors for cellulitis as follows:

  1. Malnutrition: Good nutrition plays an essential role with maintaining a strong immunity. Also, balanced nutrition is very important for healing of damaged and injured tissues. Malnourished individuals present with poor immune status and poor wound healing abilities, which can increase their risk for cellulitis significantly.
  2. Prolonged hospitalization: Individuals with history of prolonged bedrest and hospitalization suffer immunodeficiency, which can increase the risk for cellulitis significantly.
  3. Poor blood circulation: Adequate blood supply can bring enough oxygen, nutrition, and protective white blood cells to injured skin tissue and promotes infection control & healing. Compromised blood supply in individuals with chronic edema, lymphedema, uncontrolled diabetes, and chronic smoking can contribute to poor infection control & healing of injured skin tissue, leading to cellulitis.
