Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of cellulitis as follows:

  1. Cellulitis is a condition caused by bacterial or fungal infection of the skin and can involve skin on any body part, such as, face, neck, trunk, extremities, and genitals.
  2. Cellulitis usually involves the outer layers of the skin, but depending on the severity of infection, can also involve the deeper layers of skin.
  3. Infection of skin with the invading agent can result in inflammation at the involved site. As a response to inflammation, chemicals will be released at the affected skin site.
  4. The inflammatory chemicals released sensitize the skin at the site of infection and contribute to pain and tenderness of the affected area of skin.
