Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of cellulitis as follows:
- Cellulitis is a condition caused by bacterial or fungal infection of the skin and can involve skin on any body part, such as, face, neck, trunk, extremities, and genitals.
- Cellulitis usually involves the outer layers of the skin, but depending on the severity of infection, can also involve the deeper layers of skin.
- Infection of skin with the invading agent can result in inflammation at the involved site. As a response to inflammation, chemicals will be released at the affected skin site.
- The inflammatory chemicals released sensitize the skin at the site of infection and contribute to pain and tenderness of the affected area of skin.
