Patient was educated on sources of complex carbohydrates as follows:

  1. Whole grains, such as, whole wheat, cracked wheat, corn, brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, barley, oats, and buckwheat are rich in complex carbohydrates. Food products made of whole grains such as, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, buckwheat noodles, cracked wheat bread, cracked wheat cereal, cooked brown rice, cooked wild rice, cooked quinoa, cooked cornmeal, oatmeal, and barley are rich sources of complex carbohydrates.
  2. Refined grains and food products made of refined grains, such as, white rice, white flour, white bread, and processed cornmeal are also rich sources of complex carbohydrates.
  3. Vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, plantain, beetroot, carrots, and green peas are rich sources of starch, a complex carbohydrate.
  4. Legumes such as, chickpeas, pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans are also rich sources of starch, a complex carbohydrate. Green, red, yellow, and black lentils are also rich sources of complex carbohydrates.
