Patient/caregiver was educated upon complications of hypotension as follows:

  1. Hypotension and reduced blood and oxygen supply to the lungs can result in poor gas exchange in the lungs, reduced oxygen pick-up, contributing to increased dyspnea and SOB.
  2. Unresolved hypotension and progressively reduced blood supply to the kidneys can result in diminishing urine output, increased fluid and waste retention, and slow deterioration of renal function.
  3. Reduced blood supply to the skeletal muscle can result in reduced oxygen supply to the muscle, thus leading to muscle pain, fatigue, and reduced endurance to activity.
  4. Low fluid volume in circulation can contribute to increased thickening of blood, leading to increased risk for clot formation and DVT.
