Patient was educated on long term effects of unresolved hypertension as follows:
- Diffuse damage to blood vessels
- Chronic unresolved elevated blood pressure can result in damage and inflammation of blood vessels diffusely in the body. Inflamed blood vessels progressively become stiffer and lose their flexibility.
- Fat can get deposited at the sites of inflammation and result in plaque formation.
- Formation of plaque leads to further narrowing and stiffening of these blood vessels and result in compromised blood supply in all the involved organs and tissues.
- Coronary artery disease
- Chronic unresolved elevated blood pressure involving the coronary arteries, supplying oxygenated blood to the heart muscle, can result in damage and inflammation of coronary arteries.
- Fat can get deposited in these sites of damage and result in plaque formation.
- Formation of plaque leads to narrowing and stiffening of coronary arteries, compromise blood supply to heart muscle, and result in coronary artery disease.
- Angina and chest pain
- Narrowed coronary arteries could lead to poor supply of oxygenated blood to heart muscle.
- Compromised blood supply to the cardiac muscle can result in angina, which is an uncomfortable pressure, fullness, or pain in the chest on mild exertion.
- In severe cases, compromised blood supply to heart muscle could lead to development of myocardial infarction or heart attack.
